WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

Marine engineering technician or the ship building technician are responsible for building, servicing, repairing and designing of ships and boats. They may also carry out the maintenance on pierce machinery and equipment and offshore platforms.

As a technician, you will make use of broad range of engineering skills and abilities like electrical and mechanical maintenance, welding and electronic equipment installation. You will have to perform the tasks which are given below:

  • BTEC National Diploma and Certificate in Operation and Maintenance Engineering
  • City and Guilds Level 3 Certification in Engineering Construction

SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE:-

  • enthusiasm to tour and ability to work at sea for extensive periods

You should have diving skills if your job involves undersea work.

SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS:-

  • Preliminary salaries can be between $ 13,000 and $ 16,000 a year.
  • If experienced and qualified this can increase to between $ 19,000 and $ 25,000.
  • Superior technicians can be paid over $ 32,000 every year.

WORKING CONDITIONS:-

You will basically work for 38 to 40 hours every week, but overtime will be ordinary during the hectic periods.

Your workplace can differ, from an shipyard or port, to working at sea (probably undersea), setting up and servicing equipment in all the weather conditions.
