Sterile Services Technician Careers

WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

Being a sterile service technician, you will give materials and equipment to the hospital departments and wards which are required for hygienic procedures.

Your duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

• assembling medical and surgical and medical instruments and devices which can be used again
• sterilizing all the equipment
• reassembling and dismantling theoretically superior devices
• ensuring that all equipment are clean and working appropriately

• delivering disinfected supplies to the departments by trolley
• replenish supplies of substances like needles, dressings and syringes
• functioning the steam purifying machines like autoclave

Once the equipment are being cleared, you will pursue set procedures concerning the sealing, repackaging and labeling of sets or trays of instruments. You will also make use of specific equipment to neutralize or sterilize huge items.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:-

You will require good standard of education with excellent interpretation skills and understandable handwriting. Some employers might desire that you should have 5 GCSEs (Grade A-C), which include subject Mathematics and English. Having a qualification like BTEC National Diploma and Certification in Applied Science can be beneficial.

Certain skillfulness circumstances might make this work complicated.

TRAINING DETAILS:-

You can also take National Vocational Qualification in Health (Decontamination) Level 3. This course contains component like:

• gathering and cataloging equipment for sterilization

If you are having experience and National Vocational Qualification you can make an application to Institute of Decontamination Science, to develop your career as a technician.

SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS:-

• Sterile services technicians can be paid between $ 14,300 and $ 16,000 a year.
• If experienced, this could increase to around $ 19,000.

You will need to work in 24 hours shift system, operating 7 days a week. You will also be requiring covering on-call rota.

This work can be physically challenging and can involve lifting equipment and pushing heavy trolleys. You will be working in a fresh hospital atmosphere and put on protective cloths. The working condition can be humid when working with sterilizing equipment.

You can step forward from technician to assistant manager and then as a service manager. You may probably require Level 3 National Vocational Qualification in Management like a one rewarded by Institute of Leadership Management (ILM).
