WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

An art valuer assesses how much person artwork or collected works value. You will give advice to the organization and people who want to buy, sell or insure artwork which includes sculpture, paintings, chinaware, books and furniture.

Your duties and responsibilities will basically include:

  • review the condition, superiority and age of the entity or collected works

TRAINING DETAILS:

You can also build up and modernize your knowledge by attending a short term courses which are offered by the major auction houses, Christie's and Sotheby's. These covers the areas like:

  • fine and decorative arts
  • specific periods of art history
  • art market

You can take postgraduate degree like Masters of Arts in Arts Market Appraisal (Professional Practice) at Kingston University.

You can also make improvement in your career projection by achieving chartered status through the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) scheme. SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE:

SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS:

  • Initial salaries can be around $ 19,500 a year.
  • Normal salaries are around $ 23,000 to $ 25,000 yearly.
  • With some years' experience and expert knowledge, salaries can increase to $ 40,000 or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

You will have to work for irregular hours which will include weekends and evenings.

You will spend your time in auction house and an office in a dealership or visit the client's house or business premises to perform assessment. You will have to travel in the neighborhood, nationally or abroad, as per your client's.
